1. Review Romans 13:11 and look for what is “nearer.” Read Ezekiel 3:20; Doctrine and Covenants 14:7; and explain in writing what we must continue doing to work out our salvation.
Our salvation is what is coming near, it is time we come nearer to Christ. Ezekial adds that we do not want to die in our sin and D&C further contributes by explaining that we endure to the end we will have eternal life.
2. In Romans 12-13 Paul gave much counsel that leads to salvation. Read each of the following verses and list what Paul taught would help lead to salvation:
o Romans 12:1- sacrifice our bodies (give of ourselves in service)
o Romans 12:2- think not of what the world want, but what God wants
o Romans 12:9- love endlessly and embrace good
o Romans 12:13- be hospitable
o Romans 12:16- be kind to ALL
o Romans 12:21- overcome evil with good
o Romans 13:1- accept God as the highest form of power
o Romans 13:3- do not be afraid of men in charge, but always do good
o Romans 13:8- stay out of debt and never stop loving
o Romans 13:9- 9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thyneighbour as thyself.
3. Review Romans 14:1-13; 15:1-3. Then write answers to the following questions:
o What cautions did Paul give about judging? Do NOT judge others. We all are judged at the last day by Christ, what gives us the right to judge our brother?
o People may have different opinions and practices, but what is most important to remember? The most important thing to remember is to love and respect all of our fellow men.
o What additional insight comes from reading Doctrine and Covenants 38:25-27? All men are men! Even if one is dressed nicer or shabbier, it is not right to treat them differently, we must be fair to all and love all.
4. Review Romans 15:25-26, 31; 16:2, 15. Write the term Paul frequently used to refer to members of the Church in his day.
He reffered to them as saints.
